What Caltech major would the Avengers be?

When we think of Caltech and the Avengers, most of us would not make any sort of direct connections between the two. The only connection that comes to my mind is that many Caltech students enjoy Marvel and the Avengers. But what if we made another sort of connection. Where instead of Caltech students liking the Avengers, the Caltech students WERE the Avengers. If this was the case, what major would each Avenger be? (Note: For my emotional well-being, in this scenario, everyone is alive and happy with their lives at Caltech)

Tony Stark/Iron Man - Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering (Double Major)

This is THE Tony Stark. The one who not only revolutionized the weapons industry prior to his kidnapping, but also built the Iron Man suit in a cave with scrap parts. There is no way that Tony would have anything less than an engineering degree. Specifically, mechanical engineering for its widespread knowledge of the engineering field, or electrical engineering, which blends knowledge of computer and other electrical systems with the type of technology created by a mechanical engineering major. I would even bargain that he would strive for double majoring in these two disciplines in engineering. While yes, we are talking about Caltech, a school that is well-known for its rigorous courses, don’t forget that we are still talking about Tony Stark – One of the greatest minds in the entire MCU franchise. I’m pretty sure if anyone could handle this seemingly impossible combination of majors, it would be Tony.

Steve Rogers/Captain America - History (Major) - Information and Data Sciences (Minor)

Now we have basically the opposite end of the spectrum. Not to say that Steve Rogers isn’t intelligent or smart (although some of his decisions have been a bit….questionable to say the least), it’s just that Steve has always been more of the person to rely on his own prowess instead of any sort of technology. I also suspect that the entirety of STEM at Caltech is highly different from the STEM background that Steve might have had back in the 1930s. Steve’s background, however, would likely have led him to a major in history, with him having first-hand information from the previous century but also being interested in what led society from the past to become the society that we know today. However, this isn’t to say that Steve would be completely out of the realm of STEM. I believe that Steve would try for a minor in Information and Data Sciences that would allow him to gain general knowledge in the field while also being able to have some practical training, especially considering his background in S.H.I.E.L.D where he was not someone to sit back and let others do the job for him.

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow - Information and Data Sciences (Major) - Computer Science (Minor)

We now get to our resident female assassin turned super spy turned Avenger. Natasha is the type of person to want to have a bit of knowledge of everything and a bit of information on everyone. This would definitely lead her to pursue a major in IDS, which spans across multiple disciplines and topics, and it would help Natasha to have all the information that she could possibly want. If that wasn’t enough to match her preferred skillset, she would also have a minor in Computer Science, both to get the computer skills to do jobs on her own but also to potentially hack her colleagues and get more information on them. Once a spy, always a spy, I suppose.

Thor Odinson - Political Science (Major) - Planetary Sciences (Minor)

Thor was a bit harder to narrow down, in part because he is definitely more of a physical education guy than a STEM major, but also because we have no idea what, if any, type of education he was getting on Asgard. The guy could’ve been a Math prodigy on Asgard as far as we know. However, since Thor was technically King of an entire planet, I’m pretty sure that out of all of the majors that Caltech has, he would be a Political Science major. This would help him figure out how to rule Asgard in the event that it was ever up to him to rule instead of Valkyrie. Besides this, I could see Thor minoring in planetary sciences, in part to understand how Earth (aka Midgard) works seeing as how the Asgardians now reside on Earth, but also probably to amuse himself with “how much better Asgard was than Midgard”.

Clint Barton/Hawkeye - Materials Science (Major) - Information and Data Sciences (Minor)

Short answer: Make stuff go boom

Long answer: Now while Clint may not appear to be someone that would enjoy material science, or any STEM class for that matter, you’ve got to remember that Clint bases most of his Avengering (yes, that is now a verb) on his archery skills. This, of course, relies on arrows– Arrows that could be tailored to meet the needs of the archer. Clint would be a materials science major with a HUGE focus on tailoring his arrows to fit any type of situation he might find himself stuck in. Most, if not all, of the Avengers are very independent people who don’t love relying on others if they could have solved the problem themselves. Clint knows that he is one of the only Avengers without superpowers and he would definitely want to make up for that with reliable archery skills. Being a materials science major would help him figure out what substances could be used as adhesives or flares or would go boom in the right scenarios.

Bruce Banner/Hulk - Physics (Major) - Biology (Minor)

Bruce Banner would definitely focus more on the S in STEM, and given his background, would probably focus on either Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. Now I’m pretty sure he would have at least a minor in Biology seeing as how much of his work focuses on the human body and radiation. However, I can be 100% positive that Bruce would major in Physics as this is actually what happened. According to Caltech’s twitter, Bruce Banner actually came to Caltech to study Nuclear Physics, which would be a research area under the Physics major. Therefore, I can be pretty confident in Bruce’s major as Caltech already said it was true.
